SURF, GOLF, CLIMB OR DRIVE: SUMMER HEATS UP AT BADRUTT’S PALACE HOTEL
ST. MORITZ, June, 2009 – What makes the Engadine valley so unique is its natural beauty. It is characterised by majestic mountain peaks, a great open expanse, magical lakes and the famous light which has inspired many poets and thinkers from all over the world. Summer in St. Moritz entices young and old, professional or amateur, with numerous outdoor activities. The promise of pure adrenalin is provided by many high-level sporting events.
The race is on this summer on the water and the mountain passes for participants in the St. Moritz Match Race and the British Classic Car Meeting.
English Class
Dreams come true for all racing enthusiasts at the 16th British Classic Car Meeting from 10th to 12th July, 2009. Some 200 classic cars are under starter’s orders for the Alpine Rally, including classic models from Bentley, Rolls Royce, Aston Martin, Lagonda, Jaguar, Daimler and Austin Healey. The rally begins outside Badrutt’s Palace Hotel on the Saturday. The “Concours d’Elegance” on the Sunday is a feast for the eyes and ears in the heart of the town, right in front of the hotel, when the most beautiful cars will be judged and marvelled at.
When the South Wind Blows
During the summer from June to September you can almost set your watch by the Maloja Wind, which sweeps down the Engadine valley from the village of Bergell at midday. This wind uncharacteristically blows down the valley and enables a variety of sports on the Engadine lakes.
As well as kite surfing, windsurfing and other championships there is also the 32nd Surf Marathon on Lake Silvaplana from 8th to 9th August, 2009. It is particularly spectacular to see the surfers skimming across the water at high speed then leaping to perform great high jumps.
From 1st to 6th September, 2009, the best skippers in the world compete in the St. Moritz Match Race for the title of "King of the Mountains". The America's Cup participants, who are experts on the seven seas, now descend on the 1.6km long and 0.6km wide Lake St. Moritz. This demands great technical skill and fast manoeuvres from the crews and provides visitors with great spectator sport from the stands and the banks.
Balls fly further
Both professional and amateur golfers will be visiting Europe's highest lying golf courses this summer to tee off, putt and pitch. The partner golf courses in Zuoz Madulain and Samedan are sure to please with idyllic greens and breathtaking views of the surrounding Engadine Mountains. Golfers are offered great value for money with the hotel’s Golf Delight package. Upgrade to next room category upon availability; Palace golf gift on arrival; extensive buffet breakfast; free use of refreshment bar movie channels, LAN internet and free newspaper; two set-dinners in the cosy “Chesa Veglia” or the elegant “Le Restaurant” (excluding beverages); two green fees per person at Golf Courses Zouz-Madulain or Samedan; return transfer from hotel to golf courses; free tickets for all mountain railways and cable cars in St. Moritz and public transportation within St. Moritz.
Scale the Heights
In summer over 580 km of trails and hiking routes await – around lakes, winding up romantic side valleys, along the high altitude paths and up towards the mountain peaks. For those who prefer two wheels, there are over 400km of bike trails to take advantage of. There is one for every level of difficulty.
Did you know? Christine Suard, the professional PBI tennis coach will be giving lessons at the hotel’s tennis courts throughout the summer season from 10th July, 2009.
