Underdog Wins Gold in Vancouver Magazine Awards
Bearfoot Bistro Caps Year of Awards with "Best Whistler"
Whistler, BC, Canada: After coming in second at the Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards for nine straight years, Whistler’s Bearfoot Bistro, led by 29-year-old wunderkind, Executive Chef Melissa Craig, decisively ousted the incumbent and took the much coveted gold, or Best Whistler, in this year’s award ceremonies.
For Craig and her team of 20, this prize was the culmination of a whirlwind year of awards, accolades and invitations to cook all over the world following her Gold Medal Plates top award at the Canadian Culinary Championships in February 2008. Since then she has cooked in Hong Kong and China, Europe and Quebec, and recently had the honour of representing BC at the BC Scene in Ottawa.
Says Craig: “After a year of intense activity, both at the Bistro and cooking in kitchens all over the world, it’s great for our team to be recognized here at home.”
