EXPLORA AWARDED SOUTH AMERICA'S LEADING EXPEDITION COMPANY BY WORLD TRAVEL AWARDS
SANTIAGO, CHILE, October 15, 2012 – explora, Chile’s travel pioneer, has been awarded South America’s Leading Expedition Company by the World Travel Awards. Dubbed the “Oscars of Tourism” by the Wall Street Journal, the World Travel Awards have been celebrating excellence in every field of the tourism industry since 1993. For almost 20 years the organization has received worldwide recognition for its standards of quality, with many winners setting a benchmark to which others aspire.
Jesús Parrilla, explora’s CEO, comments on the importance of this award: “This award recognizes what explora is all about, and underlies the manifesto that has governed explora since its inception. In essence, it's a passion to travel to remote areas in the south of South America in a way that embraces and highlights the natural and cultural surroundings; ultimately defining a new way of traveling.”
Every year, tens of thousands of travel professionals vote for their favorite destinations, resorts, hotels, airports, travel companies, and cruises, using a long list of criteria. This year, explora has been awarded South America's Leading Expedition Company. All winners, announced in late September, will compete in the grand finale on December 12th in New Delhi, India, where regional winners will undergo a final round of voting, and leading decision makers from the travel industry will have the final word.
explora has been recognized throughout its almost 20-year history for offering its travellers not only a trip, but a new way of travelling to remote areas in South America. Its three lodges are located in the Atacama Desert, on Easter Island, and in Patagonia; for the more adventurous, multi-day nomadic journeys take travellers through the Bolivian Altiplano, northern Argentina or El Chaltén in Argentinean Patagonia. Along with these traditional programs, explora has recently launched two new horseback riding expeditions in Atacama and Patagonia. These five day/four night programs are especially designed for experienced riders eager for more adventure.

explora offers its guests a new way of travelling, where three luxury lodges serve as gateways to explore some of the most remote areas in South America: the Atacama desert in Northern Chile, the southernmost tip of the continent in Patagonia, and mysterious Rapa Nui (aka Easter Island), in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. For the more adventurous travellers, explora offers multi-day nomadic journeys, known as Travesías . Accompanied by an expert guide, personal chef and only a handful of other travellers, Travesìas take guests through little-known, remote areas of Chile, Bolivia and Argentina, to discover remarkable natural beauty.
