HUNTING FOR TREASURE ON THE SUNSHINE COAST AT ROCKWATER SECRET COVE RESORT
HALFMOON BAY, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA: From high-tech to high-seas and miles of forest in between, Rockwater Secret Cove Resort has innovated its popular adventures program introducing Trails & Sails. New for 2009, Rockwater takes you on a GPS-powered treasure hunt, naturalist-facilitated scavenger hunt and formal sailing lesson. Adventurous mainstays, guided eco-hikes and mountain biking along the stunning Sunshine Coast round out the Trails & Sails outdoors activities.
Rockwater’s knowledgeable and athletic leaders, Nigel Harrison and Chelsea Ruben return to Rockwater with a fresh sheet of outdoors activities suitable for groups of all sizes. Tech-heads take note: the latest in gaming, Rockwater ventures outdoors on a satellite-powered treasure hunt. Search for prize boxes stashed at set coordinates along local trails with a hand-held GPS. From the boardroom to the backwoods, Trails & Sails activities are ideal office retreats, great for family reunions or honeymooning couples. For non-techies, Nigel and Chelsea take groups on nature walks and guide you through the best mountain-biking trails on the Coast. Equipment rentals are also onsite to explore on your own.
Jump aboard and take the helm of the 47-foot Caledonia II Jeanneau sloop as expert skipper Chelsea Ruben navigates you through hour-long sailing lessons. Practice your perfect rig, and trim the sails along the protected waters of the Malaspina Straight. If your compass points more towards the decadent than deep-sea, let your sea legs laze as your skipper and crew set sail to Smuggler’s Cove, Buccaneer Bay, Thormanby and Jedediah Island. Rockwater’s culinary team will provide gourmet meals of fresh organic entrees and B.C. VQA wines on half- or full-day charters. Explore the essence of the Coast, rugged wilderness and pristine waters as Trails & Sails makes headway at Rockwater Secret Cove Resort.

Nigel Harrison:
Nigel has worked in the adventure sports industry for more than 15 years. An active mountaineer, rock climber and sailor, Nigel has climbed on six continents from Australia to Greenland. Having crossed the Atlantic more than once in a small boat, he is a professional sailor and navigator. As a mountain guide, ski instructor and bike leader, Nigel can’t wait to get out and see more of beautiful B.C. When he’s not guiding an adventure he can often be seen playing Frisbee with his dog.
Chelsea Ruben:
Chelsea has been around boats all her life. She loves to share her passion for sailing and the sea with others and comes to Rockwater Secret Cove Resort fresh from a transatlantic adventure in a 30-foot Chinese junk. As well as being a qualified skipper, Chelsea has a masters’ degree in marine science and can answer any queries about local sea life. Her knowledge of nature also comes in handy when she takes groups on local walks and hikes. If she’s not out playing on Caledonia II, Chelsea is most likely rock climbing, skiing, mountain biking or Scuba diving.
The Resort:
Rockwater Secret Cove Resort is a private paradise located on BC’s Sunshine Coast 15 minutes’ drive north of Sechelt.
